About the Program

Eight out of 10 workers with a mental health condition say stigma has prevented them from seeking help. Proactive companies are working to stop the stigma.

About the Program

Employee wellness is a critical component of a successful workplace, but effective well-being programs must go beyond perks. Thoughtful policies that address mental and physical health and provide support and resources for employees can have a measurable impact on increasing productivity, reducing absenteeism, and creating a workplace where employees are healthier and happier.

NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania’s CEOs Against Stigma initiative is helping companies meet this growing demand. The program educates leadership teams on the impact mental illness is having on the workplace and assists them with developing policies and practices that prioritize mental health, reduce stigma, and promote employee well-being.

Program History

Image
During Mental Health Awareness Month in May 2019, NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania launched the CEOs Against Stigma workplace mental health program with a grant from the Staunton Farm Foundation. Executives and HR leaders from nearly 40 companies attended the kickoff breakfast at the Duquesne Club in downtown Pittsburgh. The program's goal was to address mental health stigma in the workplace through awareness presentations. When the pandemic hit in 2020, we added the self-guided toolkit to help companies evaluate existing mental health policies or implement new procedures that would create a company culture where employees feel comfortable reaching out for help and supervisors feel confident having difficult conversations.
